Traditional hotel in the Berkshires

by berkshiremaven

I'm a local who had to find a place to stay when my heating failed, and it turned out to be a treat! My room was beautifully appointed and very clean, the service excellent. What started out as a disaster turned into a relaxing mini-vacation. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who wanted to experience the authentic feel of the Berkshires.

The Scene
In 1773, this property was a stagecoach tavern. It is now a Berkshires landmark, memorialized by Norman Rockwell as part of his painting, "Main Street, Stockbridge." Guests enjoy whiling away the hours on the porch rockers, or in the pleasant outdoor courtyard. Live entertainment at the on-site Lion's Den Pub brings in a sizeable crowd in the evening. Additionally, outdoor concerts at Tanglewood are a huge draw.

The Details
The inn features a main building and six additional structures housing the accommodations. Rooms are decorated with attention to 18th-century details, including four-poster beds, floral wallpaper and antique furniture. Meals are served on china and pewter, and the restaurant's wine cellar has received widespread acclaim. Along with the more formal dining room, food is served in the tavern and pub. Golf and tennis facilities are located nearby.
