Bistro Zilch. Bistro Zilch- How pretentious can one be? How about the "Wipe Your Feet" sign in French on the way in? It didn't get better after we entered. We were crammed in next to another couple, so close that our conversations were now THEIR conversations, romantic- HA!)- even though the place was half empty. I understand the desire to push everybody up front to make passersby think they are doing well, however, they could have staggered us over to one of the other 5 available 2-seater tables next to us. My wife ordered a steak, medium. It came seared and raw, like tuna. I ordered the beef shortribs, and asked for no pasta, but a green veggie instead. Sorry, no substitutions, $8 for asparagus. I got four 1"x1" cubes of beef for $32 (8 bucks a cube for you mathletes out there). The food was tasty, but the value/snotty service attitude was far from matching the price. I left hungry and unfulfilled....

Traditional Gallic dishes presented with flourish and potent cocktails.. In Short
A long zinc bar greets visitors to this charming French restaurant, where well-heeled locals and tourists spend summer afternoons tossing back cocktails and enjoying consistently good fare. The bistro is packed during the tourist season--booking tables three weeks in advance is suggested. The nightly specials read like a lineup of gustatory greatest hits: Popular dishes include lobster rolls, steak frites and Australian rack of lamb.

Zinc.... I would have to say that I very much enjoyed my experience at Zinc in Lenox, MA.

As an appetizer, I ordered the crispy duck wontons - which were superb - only to be augmented by the by the presentation. The crispyness was just perfect, and the duck was tender, yet potent.

My meal was a seared tuna with vegtable wontons. Very tasty.

I ordered the Creme Brullee - fantastic.

The waiter even brought out shrimp dipped in a light peach/wasabi sauce -- fantastic.

The service was outstanding, and well worth the cost.

Bistro Zinc Overrated. This restaurant is overrated. First off, we literally had to smear the peppercorn off our steaks. They also were short on steak knifes and had to give us a regular knife until the kitchen managed to clean some more!!!

Mashed potatoes were just that. Presentation of meal was non-existent.

Waiter never once poured our $35 bottle of wine.

Desserts nothing special and pastry was dry.

Windows were drafty. The only good thing is the bar which was friendly. However, it then took our bartender 20 minutes to bring us our check.

Better value is the Cranwell, a short drive down the road for food and ambience.

Retro Bliss. Stunning art deco floral arrangement in entrance way was a good introduction for everything else. Excellent service, imaginative menu, decent wine list.
