Know Before You Go:

Set up camp at a lean-to or marked site along the trail and keep the fires inside designated pits, and please "give a hoot, don't pollute."

The Extras:

The forest near the summit attracts birds found almost nowhere else in the state, including a variety of warblers --the blackpoll, mourning, yellow-rumped, Canada and magnolia warblers are often seen or heard.

Birdlands II:

In the lower reaches of the reservation look for the eastern meadowlark, eastern bluebird and the raven. At Stony Ledge listen for the calls of barred owls during breeding season in June.

Timberland:

The Hopper area contains old-growth red spruce forest where some of the trees are more than 150 years old.

When to Go:

Reservation roads close to automobiles in early December due to the weather.
