Butternut offers an even split of trails, with 20 percent beginner and advanced and the balance intermediate. With a quad chair, four double chairs, a triple, a rope tow and a J-bar, mountaintop access is a snap. It boasts 100 percent snowmaking, a ski school with a national reputation for top quality, a Ski-Wee program and a custom slalom race course program.

Family Values
Driving home the message of family friendliness are "children (6 years old and under) ski free" weekdays, with the purchase of an adult lift ticket. Ask about state discount days.

All Aboard
Snowboarders will be in heaven in Butternut's three terrain parks. One is a boarder-only park, while two are playgrounds on snow where boarders and plankers can shred together on crazy jumps and creative obstacles.
