Editorial Review for Mount Greylock State Reservation – by Citysearch Editors
Overview
You won't be alone at the 3,491-foot summit of Mount Greylock--there's even a lodge up top. But you'll get glorious vistas from the Adirondacks to Vermont's Green Mountains, with the knobby Berkshires splayed at your feet. Avoid crowds by hiking in and back on the Appalachian Trail from Outlook Avenue. It's 14 rugged miles round-trip, but worth the extra effort.
The Experience
Mount Greylock, Massachusetts' highest mountain, is a mere foothill compared to the world's great peaks, yet full of panoramic views and fascinating habitats. Often called the crown jewel of the Massachusetts park system, Greylock's 11,611 acres comprise open fields, high ledges, and a mix of hardwood and old-growth forest. The views range from the merely grand to the stunning.
